San Diego State University’s National Center for Urban School Transformation (NCUST) announced today the finalists for the 2009 National Excellence in Urban Education Award.  The 24 finalists were selected from among a field of applicants that includes National Blue Ribbon School Award recipients, National Title I Distinguished Schools, and many that have been recognized among the best schools in their states.

Thank you for your consideration of one of our district schools, MacArthur Elementary. We are very proud of their many accomplishments with their students' academic progress. We hope you continue this recognition as we intend to continue submitting schools that meet the criteria. Are there any restrictions to re-submitting the same school(s)?

Congratulations to Fallon Park of Roanoke and the entire staff. Working with urban communities presents challenges that most cannot imagine from the time most of the children rise in the morning to the time they lay down their heads some time in the night. Working with "at risk" youth inner city takes a special passion. Perhaps if we had more teachers nationally like the ones that clearly are making a difference at Fallon Park our youth "might just make it." However, I must send out "way to go to the great staff at RoundHill Elementary" in Roanoke where my granddaughter attends. They too have a passion for education.
