Executive Instructional Leadership Program
for California’s Urban Districts
This two-year program engages district leaders in solving specific achievement problems that confront multiple schools within their districts. The program will combine group meetings, visits to high-performing districts, peer review and analysis, and individualized executive coaching in a manner that guides district leaders to attain improved learning results associated with a specific achievement problem.
Nomination process: Superintendents in urban districts are invited to nominate experienced district leaders. We seek fellows who serve as Chief Academic Officers, Deputy or Associate Superintendents of Curriculum or Instruction, Area or Local District Superintendents, or other individuals who supervise multiple schools or district-wide instructional projects. Superintendents may nominate more than one fellow. We will select a maximum of 20 district leaders.
Program focus: With each nomination, superintendents will be asked to specify a major district achievement problem that will be the focus of the Fellow’s efforts in the Program. The assigned problem will require each Fellow to stretch beyond his/her current responsibilities and engage a broader array of stakeholders. The program will help fellows plan, implement, and evaluate a strategy to address their assigned problem.
Costs: Districts will pay $5,000 for each fellow’s participation in the first year of the program. The $5,000 fee will allow us to cover each fellow’s travel costs associated with participation. The Kabcenell Foundation has provided a generous grant that allows us to offer the program at this rate. We anticipate requiring a second year fee of $5,000 per fellow, as well.
Executive coaches: Fellows will benefit from the leadership of highly regarded executive coaches with many years of successful experience leading urban districts.
