Our mission is to help urban school districts and their partners transform urban schools into places where all students achieve academic proficiency, evidence a love of learning, and graduate well prepared to succeed in post-secondary education, the workplace, and their communities.

Our Challenge
The transformation of our nation’s urban schools is too important and too complex to depend upon fads, quick-fix policies, or one-size-fits-all programs that cannot address the widely varying contexts of our cities. Read More
   
Our Home: San Diego State University
Surrounded by several of the nations largest urban school districts and seated in the heart of California’s second largest city, San Diego State University understands that its future is inextricably linked to the future of the area’s urban schools. Read More
   

Our Endowment
The National Center for Urban School Transformation began through the generous endowment of QUALCOMM. Ultimately, the center wishes to expand the endowment to $15 million. This will ensure the permanent capacity of the Center to support the transformation of urban schools.

Our Executive Director
In August 2005, Dr. Joseph Johnson became the Executive Director of the National Center for Urban School Transformation and the QUALCOMM Professor of Urban Education at San Diego State University. Read More
